Battle of the Best Sellers

Battle of the Best Sellers

Posted on 3 Sep 2018 By Coal Hut

This is it. The showdown. We’re comparing Coal Hut’s best selling products, namely: Colombian Group 2 Coal 25kg, House Doubles 25kg, Glolite Smokeless Fuel 25kg and Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs (Crate).

This article will compare each product on a range of metrics such as heat output, fire rating, ash content and price. After having analysed and compared our best sellers, we will be able to crown our best coal, best smokeless fuel or best fire log. So, strap in and let’s begin!

Let’s start with our Colombian Group 2 Coal. One out of two star buys within our best seller list, it is sourced exclusively from Colombian mines and is considered by many as the premium house coal on the market. It is made up of large pieces that light effortlessly and burn with a natural high flame, concentrated heat and to a low residual ash. It achieved full marks in terms of our heat output rating and is suitable for use in both open fires and multi-fuel stoves, however, bituminous coal should not be burnt in smoke control areas. In addition, it is a cheap coal, with prices starting from just £131.99.

Next, we’ll take a look at our House Doubles coal. A great all rounder, this coal is made up of medium sized pieces that burn with an attractive flame, have a good heat output and burn time and produce a fluffy residual ash content. However, House Doubles only achieved an average fire life rating from us here at Coal Hut. The most attractive thing about this cheap house coal is the price. Starting at £117.99, it’s easy to see why it made it onto our best seller list.

The second of our star buys, Glolite Smokeless Fuel is a real show off. Achieving full marks in our heat output, fire life and ash content ratings, our value for money manufactured smokeless ovoids really do have the whole package. This product is most suitable for open fires and multi-fuel stoves within smoke control areas and prices start at a reasonable £148.99. Is there anything Glolite Smokeless Fuel can’t do?

Lastly, let’s compare our Kiln Dried Hardwood Fire Logs. These fire logs are the most efficient for wood burning stoves and open fires. Our logs have been dried in purpose built kilns to below 20% moisture content, so they are ready to burn immediately. They are easy to light with a warm inviting flame. They are suitable for open fires, all stoves, log burners, fire pits and chimineas. To be frank, this product does not perform as well as our previously mentioned coals and fuels in terms of heat output and fire life. In addition, it is priced at a significantly higher £298.25, however, we mustn't forget the size of this product and the homeliness factor of a wood burning fire.

Our pick? Glolite Smokeless Fuel. Practically faultless AND suitable for use in smoke control areas, how could we not crown it as our best fuel product? Yes, it isn’t the cheapest, but it also isn’t the most expensive and it’s the most well-rounded product on our list.

So that’s it, it’s settled. All that’s left to do now is for you to buy some! Happy shopping!
